Blog week 5 This week our group spent a whole night to finish the poster It was made of three parts in total, one to tell all the information topics, another one for telling how users can interact with the website and the last one to show the GUI where we set map as the basis and put information brief dot points on it. When we were designing the poster, we set out with the aim of presenting people a clear view of what our website should possibly be. Thus, we take the approach that we use less words than graph. The poster was developed intuitively, but we omit some of the details as  we reckon this is a poster rather than an instruction book. REFLECTIVE PART: Our group did not start doing the poster until the night before we present it, I do believe that we should improve on our team time management. We could have done better if we really set a timeline for each step to be done. And in workshop, we learned the detail explanation of AJAX and some intro to Photoshop and Illustra...

Blog week 4 This week is our actual ‘first’ week of working as a group as only two of our members showed up last week. But things are going quite smooth! We constructed a google drive word file that is shared within our group members, and we broke the Major Project Part A into pieces. First we work on the doc file together and then we will put our hands on the poster. Dividing the file into several parts, each one of us were assigned to one specific part in the file (our individual parts are highlighted by different colors). My part is the background inspiration and research that unformed our design. The following is my job done for the concept document part and we will soon focus on using illustrator to make the poster. To reflect on this week’s sessions, I noticed that the result of this course does not depend mostly on how great the idea in the project is but how well we have worked together and cooperated. At first I was so anxious that none of my teammates rea...

Blog week 3 The very first week working as a team is not as good as expected. We have got five members but only two showed up, including me. We were told that they are all sick but we still can't be sure about that. But anyway, two of us still came up with some great ideas by the end of the contact session, which is great. First of all, we decided a certain design process for the session of how we are gonna design it, which is Blue Hat (in 6 thinking hats). We will check out the SQL database first to see what data they have got and we can make use of. Then we integrate our ideas into a whole one that match the existing database. And lastly make design decision. Then we get to White Hat process, which is listing out all the facts that we know and make connections with each of these databases. And then, we used Red Hat process. Everyone was given half a minute to think about what we think of the topics. And only two of them were considered nice topics ---- picture QLD and R...

Blog week 2 Online reflective journal  Visualisation of my ideas I had three ideas in total, which are all relevant to maps.  The first one is giving the map of Australia a timeline with population and living expenses showing on the map. And as the timeline move from one point to another, the data/statistic of the population and living expenses in different places will change dynamically. At the same time, obvious sign of the variation of the data will be displayed too.  The second one is about combining photographs and map locations. We pull a random photograph from the SLQ and display it to users to let users guess where it is and let them pinpoint on the map. We offer several chances of guessing and tell users when the photo was taken after the user answered correctly.  Reflection on brainstorming method What I did during the first brainstorming was nothing helpful, I checked previous students' work and ge...
