Blog week 13

The very last week of DECO1800, everyone has been super busy and we divided our project part C submission into two parts — documentation and website construction. Personally, i am mainly responsible for website construction and small part of documentation. 

Website construction:

for the final week, what i did is mostly debugging and another interactive user instruction pop-up page. Debugging ensured retrieving data from databases remain normal and group zone serve side working fine. And for the interactive user instruction thing, it took me a whole night to hard code it. 

What i originally thought is use screen navigation instruction like click on a button and the instruction continue, focus move from one spot to another. However, after discussing with tutors, i was told that i must use third party plugging to implement it, which is not preferred. So i changed my design idea to use image to illustrate how to navigate and use the website. 

So what i did first is to use Photoshop edit the photo and put them in the images folder in our website project folder. And i created a div for the images, a NEXT button to move to the next slide, a BACK button to move back slide and a QUIT button to close it. 

For the documentation thing, i wrote up about the technical difficulties we encountered, mostly early stage implementation and backstage data issues. 

On Thursday, we had the presentation thing and we prepared a lot for that. First is the flyers for advertising our website, then we all dressed up in suit, and lastly the pitch. Presentation was pretty good, better than we thought it could be and the course eventually ended in joy. 

 

REFLECTION:

It has been really hard to get everyone in the group working at the first a few weeks, and i was really frustrated because that means i have to do it all by myself. 
However, when it gets to later weeks, we gradually understand what each of us is good at, so we divide into documentation part and technical part. By the end, our group turns out to be good at cooperating. 
I am really glad that what i get out go this process is not just coding skills but also more importantly, the team cooperation skills. 
What i did to get everyone working is to work hard by myself first, and my teammates started to join me when they realise how much work i have done. 
By the end of the course, our group members have all been really cooperative. 

As for the refelction of trade show, we had the problem that our group zone is not synced with the latest website file, making us really awkard. But we used some presentation techniques to hide it from everyone. 
Overall we did a good job. But to seek rom for improvement, i found that we need to have a pre-written pitch. Because i found that each of us describe the website a little bit differently and there is no always consistant statement in our presentation. 
Another is that we really need to practice before we start the trade show, a lot of us had been really nervous and we could solve that by practicing before the presentation session.
